AGOA chicken quota applications open

The quota applications for frozen chicken cuts imported from the USA under temporary rebate item 460.03/0207.14.9/01.07 are currently open. Applications close on 15 August 2020.
Companies first need to apply for a quota allocation at The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development (DALRRD), formerly DAFF. The DALRRD applications are submitted within the above-mentioned deadline.
Once a quota allocation is issued by DALRRD, an ITAC rebate permit can then be applied for. The rebate permit allows the holder to import the allocated quota without paying an anti-dumping duty. Currently, the anti-dumping duty on US chicken is R9.40c/kg. More than 65 000 tons are imported under the rebate annually.
The quota is available to both new and established importers. The size of the quota allocated to each company is determined taking into account; BEE status, import history, amount of quota applied for, and the number of companies that have applied.
