Provisional safeguard duty imposed on bolts with hexagon heads of iron or steel

The International Trade Administration Commission (ITAC) has made a preliminary decision to impose a 31.8% provisional safeguard duty on bolts with hexagon heads of iron or steel.  The products are classified under tariff subheading 7318.15.43.

Unlike anti-dumping and countervailing measures, which concern the products of only one or a couple of countries of origin, safeguard duties impact imports from all countries with the exception of specific developing and least developed countries.

The South African Iron and Steel Institute on behalf of the South African Fasteners Manufacturers Association are applicants in the matter. SAFMA is truly relentless in getting safeguard duties. Other safeguard investigations initiated in 2018 (set screws) and 2019 (threaded rods and nuts).
